desade

Inspired and adapted from Marat/Sade by Peter Weiss, desade expressed the debate and consequences of individual versus social morality. It forced the question: “what is freedom”, spoken from the mouths of two men, The Marquis De Sade and Jean-Paul Marat, accused of social corruption and madness.

De Sade is an investigation of madness, sexuality and politics. Text was adapted from a variety of sources including: Marat/Sade by Peter Weiss, Sade’s short stories and novels, court transcripts from Sade’s life, his letters, Marat’s L’Ami du Peuple, Charlotte Corday’s testimonials, and a dozen other sources were pilfered to create this dynamic new play.
